Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, which can differ from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and risk assessment, while this market aggregates the opinions of many individual traders. Historically, prediction markets have demonstrated accuracy in forecasting event outcomes, sometimes exceeding the performance of traditional methods. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before significant events or when new information emerges that impacts perceptions of likely outcomes. Examining both can provide a more comprehensive view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The market’s price is driven entirely by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis of the match. This creates a dynamic pricing system that aims to reflect the collective intelligence of the market participants.
