Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, especially when accounting for inherent biases. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market aims to represent the true probability of each exact score. However, it’s important to note that both sources can diverge, particularly early in the market’s life cycle or following significant news events related to team form or player availability. Comparing the two can offer a broader perspective on potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in each exact score. The price of each share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust, providing a real-time assessment of the potential result of the match. The market’s liquidity, currently at $384, influences how easily traders can enter and exit positions, impacting price discovery.
