Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and incorporate a margin for profit, whereas this market allows anyone to trade and express their views, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in opinion. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to new information than sportsbooks, as the price adjusts continuously with each trade.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants, constantly updating as new information becomes available and opinions shift regarding the Japan Women's Open match.
