Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which are set by professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public betting percentages and risk management, while this market relies on individuals’ independent assessments of player form, head-to-head records, and other relevant information. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access or interpretations, offering opportunities for informed traders to find value in either venue. It’s common to see this market converge with sportsbook odds as the event approaches and more information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the market price adjusts to reflect the aggregated sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price discovery process is driven by supply and demand, meaning that strong conviction in a particular outcome will push its share price higher, while doubts will drive it down.
