Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs. This can lead to discrepancies, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. Generally, prediction markets tend to be more accurate than traditional forecasts, as they incentivize participants to reveal their true beliefs. However, sportsbooks often offer more favorable odds for less probable outcomes.
Prices for this market on Polymarket and Kalshi can diverge due to several factors. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform has its own user base, trading fees, and liquidity, which can influence price discovery. Furthermore, differing market makers and trading strategies employed on each platform can lead to price discrepancies. The types of markets offered also contribute; Polymarket currently favors Spread: Georgia Southern (-17.5) at 100 percent, while Kalshi leans toward Over 2.5 1H points scored.
