Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can sometimes differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market is driven purely by traders’ willingness to buy or sell based on their own analysis. If prediction market odds diverge significantly from sportsbook odds, it may indicate that the market believes the sportsbook has mispriced the event. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities based on different methodologies and information sources.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on new information and their own assessment of the fight. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of its participants.
