Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly assess the probabilities. This can lead to discrepancies, with this market sometimes offering more favorable odds, especially when there's significant disagreement between the 'wisdom of the crowd' and sportsbook projections. It's important to compare both to identify potential value, but remember that prediction markets represent the collective beliefs of informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores, and the price of each share reflects the market’s implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more shares are traded, the prices adjust, providing a real-time assessment of expectations. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movement is driven by supply and demand, with traders expressing their beliefs about the likelihood of each possible final score. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date information available.
