This event group tracks the ISM Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for July 2026, a key economic indicator measuring manufacturing sector health. A PMI above 50 signals expansion, while below 50 indicates contraction. Both Kalshi and Polymarket are settling on the same official ISM report released in early August 2026.
This is a market about the ISM Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for July 2026, as reported by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). A reading above 50 indicates expansion in the manufacturing sector relative to the previous month; a reading below 50 indicates contraction. This market will resolve to the bracket containing the ISM Manufacturing PMI for July 2026 according to the monthly ISM Manufacturing PMI Report On Business. The resolution source for this market will be the ISM Manufacturing PMI Report On Business released for July 2026 (https://www.ismworld.org/supply-management-news-and-reports/reports/ism-report-on-business/), currently scheduled to be released on August 3, 2026, at 10:00 AM ET. Resolution of this market will take place upon release of the aforementioned data. Note: although ISM describes the PMI reading using the term "percent" in its official release (e.g., "The Manufacturing PMI registered 52.7 percent"), the PMI is a diffusion index, not a true percentage. For the purposes of this market, the PMI reading will be treated as a plain numerical value, consistent with how the index is universally quoted in financial markets. Note: The ISM Manufacturing PMI is reported to one decimal point. Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving this market. If ISM does not release the relevant figures on the scheduled date, this market may remain open until the scheduled release time of the next ISM Manufacturing PMI report (https://www.ismworld.org/supply-management-news-and-reports/reports/rob-report-calendar/). If the information is not released by that time, this market will resolve according to the figures of the most recent previous month with available data.
These markets collectively measure the ISM Manufacturing PMI headline value for July 2026 across multiple performance thresholds. The official ISM Manufacturing PMI Report On Business will be the authoritative source, with the headline PMI value recorded to one decimal place serving as the resolution metric. Each market corresponds to a specific minimum threshold: 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, or 58. A market resolves affirmatively if the published headline PMI value meets or exceeds its designated threshold. These tiered thresholds allow participants to express differentiated views on the degree of manufacturing sector expansion or contraction expected in July 2026, with higher thresholds indicating stronger economic activity in manufacturing.
Prediction markets often diverge from consensus economist forecasts because they aggregate real-money bets from diverse traders rather than relying on a single methodology. Traders incorporate forward-looking signals—supply chain reports, corporate guidance, and labor data—that may not yet be reflected in traditional analyst surveys. This market's odds can shift rapidly as new economic data arrives, whereas analyst consensus typically updates more slowly. Comparing the implied odds here to Bloomberg or Wall Street Journal consensus estimates offers insight into whether the crowd expects manufacturing conditions to surprise to the upside or downside relative to expert expectations.
Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform attracts different trader demographics, liquidity pools, and fee structures, which can create temporary price gaps on the same underlying event. Polymarket and Kalshi may also frame the outcome slightly differently—one focusing on a specific PMI range while the other bets on a binary threshold—leading to different implied probabilities. Arbitrage traders typically exploit these spreads, but until they do, the platforms can show measurably different odds. Monitoring both venues helps traders identify which side of the market may be mispriced relative to the other.
This market resolves around Aug 3, 2026, once the ISM Manufacturing PMI for July 2026 is officially released and verified. The outcome is confirmed against credible public reporting from the Institute for Supply Management, the authoritative source for this index. Traders holding positions will see their bets settled based on whether the actual PMI reading matches the outcome they wagered on. Early resolution is unlikely unless the ISM announces a delay, so mark your calendar for the typical mid-month release window.
Monthly employment reports, consumer spending data, and corporate earnings calls will all influence expectations for manufacturing activity in July. Geopolitical shocks, trade policy announcements, or unexpected inflation readings can shift trader sentiment sharply. Supply chain disruptions or major Fed policy moves will also ripple through this market, as manufacturers are highly sensitive to interest rates and input costs. Traders should monitor leading indicators like the ISM Services PMI, regional manufacturing surveys, and initial jobless claims in the weeks leading up to resolution, as these often foreshadow the headline manufacturing index.
