Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance betting action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs about the likelihood of each outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists, opportunities may arise for arbitrage, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both platforms. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities as perceived by different groups.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and share information, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the event's potential results. Currently, the market indicates a strong likelihood of a specific outcome, as reflected in the share prices.
