This set of markets focuses on predicting the point differential between Illinois and Maryland specifically within the second quarter of their college football game. Each market corresponds to different point margins that either team could achieve during that quarter.
These markets resolve based on the point differential achieved by either Illinois or Maryland exclusively during the second quarter of the game scheduled for October 31, 2026. Each market corresponds to a specific point margin threshold, with outcomes ranging from narrow victories to larger point differentials. If Illinois meets or exceeds the specified margin in its favor during that quarter, the corresponding 'Illinois wins by over X points' market resolves positively. Conversely, if Maryland achieves the required margin, the relevant 'Maryland wins by over X points' market resolves positively. All markets exclusively consider points scored during the second quarter, disregarding any scoring from other quarters. Should the game be postponed but commence within 48 hours of the original schedule, the markets remain active and resolve according to the official result. If the game fails to start within this 48-hour window, all markets resolve to a fair price, ensuring equitable treatment for all participants regardless of game timing uncertainties.
Generally, prediction markets tend to reflect information and opinions from a wider range of participants than traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and aim to balance action on both sides, this market allows anyone to express their view on the likely outcome, potentially incorporating unique or specialized knowledge. It’s common to see prediction market prices move differently than sportsbook odds as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts, sometimes offering a different perspective on the probability of various outcomes. However, both attempt to forecast the same event.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different point spreads for the second quarter. The price of each contract reflects the market’s collective assessment of the probability of that spread occurring. As more traders participate and place orders, the price adjusts to find an equilibrium point where buyers and sellers agree. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing mechanism means the odds are constantly updating based on real-time supply and demand, offering a unique view compared to static odds offered elsewhere.
This market resolves around Oct 31, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the final point spread for the second quarter of the Illinois vs Maryland game is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the official result reported by the governing body of the game. The market will determine which contracts payout based on whether the actual spread falls within the ranges defined by the available contracts. Traders holding winning contracts will receive a payout of 100 USD per contract.
Several factors could influence the price of this market. Any news regarding injuries to key players on either the Illinois or Maryland teams would likely cause significant movement. Changes in weather forecasts, particularly if they suggest conditions favoring one team’s playing style, could also impact trading activity. Furthermore, late-breaking news about team strategies or coaching decisions, or even significant shifts in public perception based on pre-game analysis, could all contribute to price fluctuations in this market before Oct 31, 2026.
