Frequently asked questions

It's common to see differences between prediction market odds and those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often set their lines to attract balanced betting action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both platforms. However, these opportunities are often short-lived as the markets adjust. Keep in mind that prediction markets can sometimes offer more nuanced outcomes than standard sportsbook bets.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about the outcome of the Tomas vs. Jachym match. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure drives the price down. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand, and there are no external factors influencing it.
