Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and incentives. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If there's a significant discrepancy, it could indicate that the crowd believes there's an edge not yet priced in by sportsbooks, or vice versa. It's important to compare these odds to those offered by sportsbooks to assess potential value and inform your decision-making process.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people trade, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the market participants. This dynamic pricing means the odds are constantly evolving based on new information and changing sentiment, providing a real-time assessment of the event's potential results.
