Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, they can express that view by trading in this market, driving the odds closer to what they perceive as the true probability. It’s common to see divergences, especially before significant events or when new information emerges.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing different outcomes of the Howard vs. North Carolina Central game, and the price of each share reflects the market’s implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price fluctuates based on supply and demand; increased buying pressure drives prices up, indicating higher confidence in that outcome, while selling pressure lowers prices. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust expectations.
