Frequently asked questions

Generally, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, reflecting their profit margin. This market, being driven by the collective wisdom of traders, tends to be more efficient and can sometimes offer more favorable odds. However, sportsbook odds are readily available and widely publicized, providing a common benchmark for comparison. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions on team form, potential injuries, or even public betting biases, making both sources valuable for informed decision-making.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular team, the price increases, indicating a higher perceived chance of them scoring first. Conversely, selling shares drives the price down. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence.

This market resolves around Oct 3, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on which team scores the first goal in the Hill of Beath vs. Glasgow University match. If neither team scores, that outcome will be declared the winner. The result will be determined by official match records and widely available sports news sources, ensuring a transparent and verifiable process. Traders should monitor official sources for updates as the match progresses.

Several factors could influence this market before resolution. Any news regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either Hill of Beath Hawthorn FC or Glasgow University FC would likely cause significant shifts in the odds. Unexpected changes in weather conditions, potentially favoring one team's playing style, could also impact the market. Furthermore, any pre-match analysis or expert predictions gaining traction could sway trader sentiment. Finally, even significant betting activity – a large influx of volume on one outcome – could move the market, reflecting a change in collective belief.
