Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market’s prices are driven purely by traders’ willingness to buy or sell based on their beliefs about the outcome. If a significant number of people believe one team will win, the odds will shift accordingly, potentially offering a different value than those found at sportsbooks. It’s common to see prediction markets more accurately forecast event outcomes than traditional methods, though discrepancies can occur due to differing information or risk appetites.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on the collective intelligence of the traders participating, providing a real-time assessment of the event’s potential results.

This market resolves around Oct 18, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the official result of the Hawthorn Hawks versus Brisbane Lions AFL match. The platform will verify the final score and declare the winning outcome accordingly. Traders who hold shares in the correct outcome will be entitled to a payout based on the final market price at the time of resolution, while those holding shares in the losing outcome will forfeit their investment.

Several factors could influence the price of this market before resolution. Any news regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either the Hawthorn Hawks or the Brisbane Lions would likely cause significant shifts in the odds. Unexpected changes in team form, coaching decisions, or even weather conditions on game day could also impact trader sentiment. Major media coverage or expert analysis predicting a specific outcome could also drive buying or selling pressure, leading to price fluctuations. Monitoring these signals will be key to understanding how this market evolves.
