Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to be accurate. If there's a significant difference between the two, it could indicate disagreement about the true probability of an outcome. This market’s odds may incorporate information not yet fully priced into sportsbook lines, or reflect different subjective assessments of the players involved. It's valuable to compare both to form a well-rounded view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or opinions. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information.
