Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, which can differ from sportsbook odds that are set by professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public betting patterns and risk management into their pricing, while this market relies on individuals’ independent assessments of the likely outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the teams’ strengths and weaknesses. It’s common to see this market and sportsbook odds converge closer to the event date as more information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market’s implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective belief of the crowd. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand – if more people believe a particular score is likely, they will buy shares, driving up the price, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information and changing sentiment.
