Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a more nuanced view than traditional sportsbooks, as they aggregate the wisdom of many individual traders. Sportsbooks establish lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the likely outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in opinion. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information and potentially offer more accurate probabilities than initial sportsbook offerings.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous double auction. Traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores, and the price of each share reflects the market’s collective belief about the probability of that score occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to find an equilibrium. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven by supply and demand, with higher demand increasing the price and lower demand decreasing it. This dynamic pricing mechanism aims to create a real-time forecast of the event’s outcome.
