Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely express their beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, biases, or the influence of large bettors. If significant differences exist, arbitrage opportunities may emerge, where traders can profit by betting on both platforms. However, it’s important to note that sportsbooks and prediction markets serve different purposes and attract different types of participants.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction markets. The current price indicates the market’s expectation for the result of the match.
