Generally, prediction market odds, like those for this market, often reflect a 'wisdom of the crowd' that can differ from traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while prediction markets allow anyone to express their belief, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities. However, sportsbook odds are easily accessible and widely publicized, and may incorporate different information than is priced into this market. Discrepancies can arise due to varying levels of information, biases, or differing interpretations of the event's likelihood.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants. The current price indicates what traders are willing to pay for exposure to a specific result in the Guayaquil doubles match.
