Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially differing from those set by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, but may be influenced by factors like house bias or marketing strategies. This market, driven by user predictions, can sometimes offer a more accurate forecast, especially as new information emerges. It's common to see discrepancies, as prediction markets allow for continuous price discovery based on real-time trading activity.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome will happen, the higher the share price will climb, and vice-versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the latest information and collective intelligence of the crowd.
