Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to express their own independent assessments. It’s common to see this market move in response to news, injuries, or shifts in public perception, potentially leading to odds that diverge from traditional sportsbooks. Analyzing these differences can reveal where the crowd believes the sportsbook is mispricing the probability of an outcome in the Guangzhou tennis match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares, the price increases, reflecting a higher perceived chance of success. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price dynamically adjusts based on supply and demand, providing a real-time assessment of the likelihood of a particular player winning the Guangzhou tennis match.
