Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. If prediction market odds significantly diverge from sportsbook lines, it could indicate that the crowd perceives information differently than the bookmakers. It’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, but are formed through different mechanisms and can be influenced by varying factors, such as public perception and expert analysis.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each fighter winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to incorporate new information and changing sentiment. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand; if more people believe Xiaoyin Yang will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of its participants.
