Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market reflects the wisdom of the crowd. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in modeling approaches. If you find a significant difference between the implied probability on Polymarket and sportsbook odds, it might indicate an opportunity for value betting, assuming you have a strong conviction about the true probability of an outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are traded, the price of those shares adjusts, reflecting the evolving consensus. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of the outcome it represents; a share trading at 60 means there's a 60% implied probability of that outcome occurring. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence.
