Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs. As more information becomes available – such as player form, injury reports, or weather conditions – the prediction market odds can adjust more rapidly than traditional sportsbook odds. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events influencing the match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As demand for shares in a specific outcome increases, the price of those shares rises, indicating a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven entirely by supply and demand, with no centralized bookmaker setting the odds. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the traders participating in this market.
