Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different kind of wisdom than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market aims to represent the true probability as assessed by traders. Often, prediction markets are more accurate than traditional polls or expert analyses, as they aggregate the knowledge of a diverse group of participants. However, it's important to remember that both prediction markets and sportsbooks are based on probabilities and can be influenced by various factors, including news, injuries, and public perception.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its shares will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants. The current price of shares indicates what traders, as a group, believe is the probability of a particular player winning the Guangzhou tennis match.
