Typically, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets, like this one, allow traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to differences in implied probabilities, especially as new information emerges. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market reflects the wisdom of the crowd, potentially identifying discrepancies or undervalued outcomes as the event approaches. It's a useful comparison point for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand for these shares, creating a dynamic and responsive indicator of expectations for the Grizzlies-Trail Blazers game.
