Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by traders expressing their beliefs. Often, you’ll find that prediction markets are more accurate than traditional forecasts, especially when there’s significant public interest. However, sportsbook odds still represent a valuable point of comparison to gauge public sentiment and potential value in this market.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current trading volume and price fluctuations reflect the collective intelligence of those participating in the market, offering a dynamic assessment of the game’s potential results.
