Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often diverging from initial sportsbook offerings as more information becomes available and traders exchange views. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the opinions of many individuals. If a significant discrepancy exists between prediction market probabilities and sportsbook odds, it may suggest that the market perceives information differently than traditional oddsmakers. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome, and discrepancies can arise due to differing methodologies and risk assessments.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scorelines. The price of each share reflects the market’s collective belief about the probability of that score occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the evolving consensus. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s liquidity, indicated by the trading volume, influences how quickly prices respond to new information. Higher volume generally means more efficient price discovery, and currently, the volume is $1,398.
