Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market is driven by real-money trading and the aggregated beliefs of participants. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or risk appetites. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information, especially in response to breaking news or late-developing insights about team form or injuries.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the implied probability of that score occurring, as determined by supply and demand. As more traders believe a particular score is likely, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price movements are influenced by various factors, including pre-match analysis, team news, and public sentiment, all reflected in the trading activity of participants.
