Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, especially as an event approaches. Sportsbooks may incorporate biases or seek to profit from public perceptions, while this market aggregates the views of many independent traders. However, initial sportsbook lines often influence the early trading in this market, and discrepancies can emerge due to differing risk assessments or information availability. It’s important to compare both to form a well-rounded opinion on the likely outcome of the match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market efficiently incorporates new information as it becomes available, reflecting the collective intelligence of the participants. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on supply and demand.
