Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks may set odds based on statistical models and public perception, while this market aggregates insights from informed traders. Over time, prediction market prices tend to become more accurate as more information becomes available and traders refine their assessments. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before the event, as the market incorporates unique data and analyses not immediately reflected in traditional betting odds.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective prediction. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand for shares, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the match's potential result. This allows for a fluid and responsive pricing system.
