Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their risk and ensure profitability, while this market relies on traders directly expressing their beliefs about the probability of each outcome. It’s common to see prediction market odds move more quickly and efficiently in response to new information or changing sentiment than traditional sportsbook odds. However, as the event approaches, they may converge as more information becomes available and the market matures.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event’s likelihood.
