Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from those offered by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market’s odds are driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or risk assessments. If there’s a significant difference, it might present an arbitrage opportunity for traders who can capitalize on the mispricing between the two. It’s important to note that prediction markets often become more accurate closer to the event.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous double auction, meaning buyers and sellers submit bids and asks, and the market price fluctuates based on supply and demand. Traders are essentially betting on the probability of each outcome – whether Florida A&M or Jackson St. will win the first half. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price reflects the collective belief of all participants, and changes in price indicate shifts in perceived probability. Higher prices suggest a lower probability, while lower prices indicate a higher probability of that outcome occurring.
