Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action, while this market represents what traders believe is the true probability of an outcome. Early in the market, you may find discrepancies, as sportsbooks incorporate a margin for profit. As the event nears and more information becomes available, the odds on Polymarket may converge with, or diverge from, sportsbook lines depending on new insights and public sentiment. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform traditional forecasts.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective prediction. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is driven by supply and demand – if more people believe a player will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice-versa. This creates a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event's likelihood.
