Prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market represents the aggregated beliefs of individual traders. Discrepancies can arise from differing information sources, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of each market. If there’s a significant difference, it could indicate an opportunity for value betting, where traders believe the prediction market is mispricing the probability of an outcome compared to what sportsbooks suggest.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the prices adjust, reflecting the evolving consensus. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and represents the collective forecast of all participants regarding the Gill vs Misolic match.
