Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance their risk, incorporating a margin for profit, while this market relies on individuals trading based on their own analysis. If a significant number of traders believe a particular outcome is more likely than sportsbooks suggest, the odds on Polymarket will adjust accordingly. It's common to see discrepancies, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts leading up to the match. These differences can present opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing each possible exact score. The price of each share directly reflects the market's implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a specific result, its price increases, and the implied probability rises. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is entirely driven by supply and demand, with traders expressing their beliefs about the match's final score through their trading activity. This creates a dynamic and responsive pricing system.
