Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the views of many individuals with varying levels of knowledge. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, particularly before a significant amount of trading occurs. Examining these differences can reveal insights into public sentiment and potentially identify value bets, though it’s important to remember that neither source is guaranteed to be correct.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each exact score. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. The market’s efficiency is driven by arbitrage opportunities, encouraging traders to correct any mispricings relative to their own assessments of the event’s potential results. The current volume is unknown, but impacts price discovery.
