Sportsbooks set lines based on their own modeling and profit margins, while prediction markets are driven by the collective wisdom of traders. This market benefits from the diverse knowledge and incentives of its participants. As a result, prediction market prices can sometimes be more accurate, especially when a significant amount of volume is traded. The efficiency of this market reflects a real-time assessment of probabilities, potentially offering a different perspective than fixed sportsbook lines.
Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi may differ due to variations in user base, trading activity, and market-specific rules. Each platform attracts a different set of traders with varying levels of expertise and risk tolerance. This can lead to discrepancies in how information is interpreted and reflected in the market prices. Furthermore, the liquidity and volume on each platform can influence price discovery. While both platforms address the same question regarding the Fenerbahce vs. Tofas game, these factors contribute to potentially different pricing dynamics.
