Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Predict, often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the wisdom of the crowd effect. Sportsbooks set lines based on their internal models and aim to balance action on both sides, while prediction markets allow anyone to trade and express their beliefs. This can lead to prediction markets reflecting a more accurate probability assessment, especially as more information becomes available. However, sportsbooks may offer different types of wagers or incentives, impacting their odds. Volume on this market is currently $0.
Polymarket and Predict can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Predict may diverge due to differences in user base, trading activity, and perceived information advantages. Polymarket currently favors neither team to score first at 48%, while Predict leans toward FC Thun to score first. These discrepancies can arise from varying levels of expertise among traders on each platform or differing interpretations of relevant news and data. Furthermore, the liquidity and volume on each platform can influence price discovery, leading to temporary imbalances before prices converge or stabilize. The differing user interfaces and fee structures on each platform can also contribute to these price variations.
