Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven purely by traders’ willingness to buy or sell. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing a particular outcome, the odds on Polymarket may move in the opposite direction. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before major events or when new information emerges, offering a potentially different perspective on the likely result than traditional betting options.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about whether Lorient or Monaco will score first in the first half. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share represents the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust expectations as the event approaches. The current market reflects the collective judgment of those trading on the platform.

This market resolves around Oct 18, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the market will determine which team, if any, scores the first goal during the first half of the FC Lorient versus AS Monaco FC match. The official match records will be used to verify the result. The resolution will be based on the official game statistics and will be publicly available shortly after the first half concludes, providing a clear and objective determination of the winning outcome for this market.

Several factors could influence the price of this market before the match concludes. Any news regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either Lorient or Monaco would likely cause significant movement. Changes in team formations or tactical approaches announced before kickoff could also shift trader sentiment. Unexpected weather conditions on match day, or even late-breaking news about team morale, could also play a role. Finally, significant betting activity – a large influx of volume on Polymarket – could quickly alter the odds, reflecting a change in perceived probability.
