Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market relies on the collective predictions of informed traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or risk assessments. It's possible to find value by comparing the implied probabilities from this market to those offered by sportsbooks, identifying where the crowd believes there's an edge.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market's current assessment of the probability of that score occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price movements are driven by new information, changes in sentiment, and the overall flow of trading activity, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the likely outcome.
