Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin. This market, however, is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. If a significant number of users believe a team is more likely to score first than sportsbooks suggest, the odds on Polymarket will adjust accordingly, potentially offering value to informed bettors. It's a fascinating comparison of different forecasting approaches.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, similar to how stocks are traded. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether FC Argeș Pitești or FC UTA Arad will score first. As more people buy shares in one outcome, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. The market's efficiency relies on active participation and informed trading by users.
