Frequently asked questions

Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, especially as an event approaches. Sportsbooks may incorporate biases or seek to profit from public perception, while this market aggregates the beliefs of informed traders. However, initial sportsbook lines can sometimes offer value before the prediction market fully incorporates all available information. It’s common to see the odds on Polymarket converge with sportsbook lines as the event draws nearer, but discrepancies can still emerge due to differing market participants and information access.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event's likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price indicates the market’s expectation of which team will score first in the match, and traders can use this information to make informed decisions about buying or selling shares.

This market resolves around Oct 3, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the market will determine which team – Exeter City FC or Rotherham United FC – scores the first goal in the scheduled match. The resolution will be based on official match data, ensuring an objective and verifiable result. Traders will be able to claim their winnings based on the final outcome as reported by official sources following the conclusion of the game.

Several factors could influence the price of this market before resolution. Any news regarding team injuries, particularly to key attacking players, would likely have a significant impact. Changes in team form, such as a recent winning or losing streak, could also shift the odds. Unexpected weather conditions on match day, or even tactical announcements from the managers, could also cause movement. Furthermore, any significant betting activity or large trades on Polymarket could indicate shifts in market sentiment and influence the price of shares.
