Frequently asked questions

Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. This can be due to the wisdom of the crowd effect, where the collective predictions of many individuals can be more accurate than those of a few experts. While sportsbooks set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, this market allows anyone to participate and express their beliefs, potentially revealing information not captured by conventional methods. Discrepancies can arise from differing opinions on player form, potential upsets, or even external factors influencing the match.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event's potential results. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market remains responsive to new information and changing perceptions as the match draws closer. The current volume indicates the level of interest and confidence in the various possibilities.
