Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own analysis, while this market allows anyone to trade on their predictions. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, they can take the opposite position, driving the prediction market odds in a different direction. This dynamic can lead to prediction markets being more accurate than sportsbooks, especially as the event approaches and more information becomes available. It's a fascinating comparison of different forecasting methods.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of an outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the market. This creates a dynamic and efficient pricing signal, driven entirely by supply and demand from individuals trading on their predictions about the Schindler vs Sedlacek match.
