Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and may incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs. If a significant difference emerges, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both platforms. However, it’s important to remember that prediction markets and sportsbooks have different user bases and information sources, leading to potentially distinct perspectives on the event's outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information surfaces, the price fluctuates, reflecting the evolving consensus. The current price indicates the market’s collective assessment of the likelihood of Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard winning against Remy Bertola in the European Open qualification match.
