Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Limitless, often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the differing incentives and information sources involved. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while prediction markets reflect the aggregate beliefs of informed traders. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market's pricing is driven by a diverse crowd, potentially leading to a more nuanced assessment of probabilities.
Polymarket and Limitless can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Limitless can diverge for several reasons, including differences in user base, trading fees, and market-specific rules. Each platform attracts a unique set of traders with varying levels of expertise and risk tolerance. Furthermore, the liquidity and volume on each platform can influence price discovery. If one platform has significantly higher volume, its prices may be more efficient and responsive to new information. These factors contribute to the possibility of differing probabilities for the same outcome, even when considering the same event – the Paul vs Rublev match.
