Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, being driven by the collective wisdom of traders, can sometimes offer more favorable odds, especially if there's disagreement between the crowd and the sportsbook. However, sportsbook odds are readily available and provide a useful benchmark for comparison, and discrepancies can highlight potential value in either market. It’s important to consider both when evaluating the potential outcome of the Mensik vs Neumayer match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a specific outcome, the higher its price rises, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adapt to new information and changing sentiment among traders. The current implied probabilities are determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket.
