Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market’s odds are driven by actual money being placed on different outcomes. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of supply and demand within the prediction market. Comparing the two can highlight areas where the crowd believes there's value, or where sportsbooks may have mispriced the probability of an event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and place bets, the price adjusts to reflect the evolving consensus.
